Email Setup
Send GST invoices from GST Pro's default sender or from your own domain using Gmail SMTP, another SMTP provider, or Amazon SES.
Overview
GST Pro can email invoices to customers automatically or on demand. You can send using GST Pro's built-in sender, or connect your own email so invoices arrive from your domain. Sending from your own domain improves deliverability and trust — but requires correct SPF/DKIM records.
Before you start
- Decide who invoices should appear to come from (GST Pro's sender vs. your own domain).
- For your own domain, have access to your email provider's SMTP credentials or an Amazon SES account, plus your DNS to add SPF/DKIM records.
Steps
Choose a sending method
The simplest option — GST Pro sends invoices on your behalf with no extra setup. Good for getting started. To use your own domain later, switch to SMTP or SES.
Use a Gmail / Google Workspace account as the sender.
- Host:
smtp.gmail.com, Port:587(TLS). - Username: your full Gmail address.
- Password: a Google App Password (not your normal password — generate one with 2-Step Verification enabled).
Any SMTP provider works (Zoho, Outlook, your host, etc.). Enter the host, port, username, and password from your provider, then send a test.
For high volume and best deliverability, use Amazon SES SMTP credentials. Verify your domain in SES, move out of the SES sandbox for production sending, and enter the SES SMTP host, port, and credentials.
Set up SPF and DKIM (own-domain sending)
If you send from your own domain, add the SPF and DKIM DNS records your provider gives you. Without them, invoices are likely to land in spam or be rejected.
Always send a test email after changing sender settings and check the spam folder. DNS changes can take a little while to propagate.
Send a test invoice email
Generate an invoice for a test order and email it to yourself. Confirm it arrives, the sender address is correct, and the PDF attaches/links properly.
Result
Invoices send reliably from your chosen sender. With SPF/DKIM configured for your own domain, they arrive in the inbox rather than spam.
